Tuscany is in central Italy, north of Rome, on the west coast, stretching inland to broken hills that comprise the spine of Italy.

The bigger towns are famous world wide for their history and art:
Pisa is on the coast.
Florence (known as Firenze by Italians) is the most famous city of art in the world.
Siena is another historic city an hours drive south of Florence.

The rugged hills between Florence and Siena hold the Chianti region famous for its wine and food.

Tuscany is 9,197 square miles (23,728 sq km).

The region is divided into ten provinces:
Florence, Siena, Pisa, Arezzo, Pistoia, Livorno, Grosseto, Lucca, Massa-Carrara and Prato.
